Visiting Charleston in May for a week. Want to see Historic District, Plantations and drive up and down the coast to other attractions. By the map, No. Charleston seems centrally located. Any comments? Hotel suggestions? Restaurants? Or. stay elsewhere for vacation atmosphere?
What about No. Charleston?
My advice is: ';Stay elsewhere for vacation atmosphere.';
No.Chas. is fine for daily touring by car - you have reasonably priced hotels, proximity to the airport, some chain restaurants, etc.; but there is zero ambience. In the area, you will find businesses, light industry, and car lots, but nothing that will add to your vacation experience.
If you don%26#39;t want to pay for a hotel in the historic district, consider renting a condo or cottage at one of the beaches. May is a beautiful time to be in the lowcountry. It would be sad to waste the great beach weather and the fresh sea air.
What about No. Charleston?
Yeah, North Charleston is not the place for a relaxing vacation. I second the beach house idea, and also check out Shem Creek Inn in Mount Pleasant. They have pretty good rates and a great location.
