We are traveling to MB first week in June and looking for the best route. I %26#39;ve heard it takes about 12 hrs to our destination. We will be stopping in Asheville as that seems to be a good spot to stop since its a little over half way to MB.
These are the directions I retrived from Mapquest (cant always depend on them though):
I-94 E toward CHICAGO
LEFT to take I-90 E via EXIT 59A
I-65 EXIT 17- toward INDIANAPOLIIS.
I-71 N toward CINCINNATI
I-64 E toward LEXINGTON.I-75 S toward RICHMOND / KNOXVILLE I-275 S toward ASHEVILLE.I-640 E exit 3 toward ASHEVILLE.
I-40 E EXIT on the LEFT toward ASHEVILLE
I-26 E EXIT 46A toward HENDERSONVILLE /SPARTANBURG
I-20 E EXIT 107B toward FLORENCE.
I-20 E becomes W DAVID H MCLEOD BLVD / I-20 SPUR E.
LEFT on W PALMETTO STRIGHT on N NEW ST
LEFT on E PALMETTO ST
LEFT on S PIEDMONT ST.
RIGHT on E PALMETTO ST / Continue to follow US-76 E.
Stay STRAIGHT to go onto SC-576 E.
SC-576 E becomes US-501 BR S.
US-501 BR S becomes US-501 S.
LEFT on US-165 / DUNN SHORT CUT RD.
RIGHT on US-501 S / EDWARD E BURROUGHS HWY.
US-17 N / US-17-BYP N toward NORTH MYRTLE BEACH.

Is there any construction tha we should be aware of?
We are staying at the Sea Island Inn.
Thanks.
Best and Quickest route to MB from Chicago
You are right Mapquest did not give you the best route here. That route takes you through Florence/Conway (bad choice) You are correct I-26 to Columbia, SC, in Colulmbia take I-20 to Florence. Almost to Florence I-95 to Fayetteville (North) go aprrox 10 miles on I-95 you will see an exit MYRTLE BEACH ( Wendys/McDonalds at this exit, best place to stop, get gas/restrooms) stay to the right. I am lost on the exit number I want to say 170 (It is the very next exit past TV Road) you should have no problem. You will go about 10 miles or so, come to a stop light with a Wendy%26#39;s, turn left (SIGN WILL SAY MYRTLE BEACH) Follow all the signs that say MYRTLE BEACH (NOT North MYRTLE BEACH) road turns into 501, go thru AYNOR and take I-22 (highway begins in Aynor only one way on). I-22 takes you directly into North Myrtle Beach. NOT sure where you are staying. If you are staying in South Myrtle Beach, take Hwy 31 off of 22 this will take you to Robert Grissom Parkway OR Bypass 17. If you are staying on North Ocean Blvd, you are probably just as well off to stay on 22 to Business 17.
Best and Quickest route to MB from Chicago
We are staying at Sea Island Inn.
I suggest you stay on I-22 all the way to Business 17, (ends at 17) head South on Business 17, go couple miles. You will come to a V in the road, (Carolina Opry and Dixie Stampede at the V) to the right is BYPASS 17 and left is BUSINESS 17 (Kings Hwy) stay left. I believe the first light you come to 82nd N, you have 22 blocks to 60th N (turn left) where Sea Island is. The streets are numbered and will be going down, very easy to find.
Thanks for the information!! I will print this forum and take on our trip! I appreciate the advice..
If you are staying at Sea Island, do take Rt 22 to Rt 31, exit Rt 31 onto Robert Grissom Parkway (ALOT shorter than going clear to the end to catch Rt 17)...you will cross over the waterway and see signs for Rt 17 N....go less than 1/2 mile on Rt 17 this will put you at the stoplight at 62nd Ave N and Rt 17 Bypass...turn right onto 62nd....stay on that clear to the end (Ocean Blvd) (62nd becomes Highland when you cross Kings Hwy (Bus 17)...at Ocean Blvd you%26#39;ll see Sea Island off to your right.....
Last time I went home (I%26#39;m from Bourbonnias/Bradley area) there wasnt any construction....nothing major anyway.
Be safe! Asheville is a great stopping spot....stop right before the mountains...that way you can cross them during the daytime. And the trip....plan for at least 16 hours...the quickest I%26#39;ve ever done is 14 and I really wasnt obeying many traffic laws! LOL
:)
Yes 31 is quicker, however, I lived at 31 and Grissom and it seemed that people got lost that way and ended up on bypass 17 or stayed on Grissom. You are correct I prefer 31, I drive it every day. Either way, if they go the few extra miles to 17, they will get a feel for what is down that way as far as Restaurant Row/Barefoot Resort.
You will encounter more traffic and many more lights and it will add some extra time if you stay on 22 all the way in. Just be sure if you go 31, you get off at Robert Grissom Parkway, it is the 2nd ramp under the overpass. You will stay on that road about mile and half. Watch the road signs.
Thanks for the information. It really helps when you have some advice from experience people. We are so excited for our trip!
We thought Asheville would be a great place to stop and view the beauty and mountains.
We also plan to go to Charleston for a couple days. How far is that from MB and what is the best route. Looking to staying at the Holiday Inn in Historic Downtown.
Thanks!
solprincess....
Just watch your signs once you exit onto Rt 31...you%26#39;ll be just fine. It can be tricky, but just keep an eye out.
As for Charleston...a straight shot south on Rt 17. Give yourself at least 2 hours to get down there. I love Charleston, and its great that you are staying right downtown! You will be within walking distance to alot of shopping and eating! A great way to see the city is one of the carriage rides! By taking one of those, you learn so much about the city!
Have a great time!
:)
I%26#39;m a little confused by your saying it should take 12 hours from Chicago since it says it should take us 11 to 12 hours to get there from Pittsburgh, PA. Is there a route I%26#39;m missing that cuts off a bunch of time from Pittsburgh or is Chicago the same distance to Myrtle Beach?
Just wondering.

Saxonburg, PA
I dont know personally how long it will take to get to MB, as we have never been there. But some friends of ours have been to MB from Chicago and it took them 12-13 hours, dont know the route they took or how fast they were driving.
