I thought this was supposed to be fun!

It started off fun..then I almost had a nervous breakdown!

When our family decided to plan a trip to Myrtle this April when my husband, a teacher, and kids are on vacation I was really excited.

A group of 10 family members decided to go together....which has been working fine as far as planning goes. My problems came up with finding properties that we were happy with..and watching them get swiped right out from under me before I could book them!!! We were always solid on wanting a private house...and ocean front was mandatory....and of course a pool. So, after rabout 15 hours of more of research we found one and booked it until we found out that a heater is mandatory in April. Well, that pool was not heated.....so we moved on. Now we have a home with a heated pool.....it%26#39;s not ocean front, but across the street in surfside beach.

It looks very cute...I hope we are happy with it.

Has anyone stayed there??? Also, what is the weather like in early April and do the nights dip below 55 normally?

Thanks for your help!!

Jill

The 50%26#39;s is commn for lows in April in MB.

Wow, just 15 hours. I spend months (a year ahead of when we want to go) to start trying to find something. You typically have to reserve beach houses a year ahead on the week you are looking for to have the best choices. (April of 2006 for April of 2007)

We%26#39;ve used Garden City Realty for over 25 years and have always been very happy with the houses we%26#39;ve rented. We%26#39;ve always been ocean front and I just took a look and saw several with pools that were still available in April depending on when you want to go.

Here%26#39;s a link: http://www.gardencityrealty.com

Go to Vacation rentals at the top of the page and when your mouse goes over it , it will give you several choices. Choose ';House'; and go from there. Good Luck.

According to the info I saw in this forum the weather starts to get really nice there in April, but I%26#39;m sure the water is still chilly and they also mentioned a breeze that will make things seem a little cooler.

Weather is hit or miss in early April. Sometimes absolutely beautiful...other times absolutely freezing. The ocean water will be very cold regardless of the outside temp.

It really is indeed hit or miss I%26#39;m afraid. Great golf weather. Nice for sitting outside in shorts and shirt to get some sun. But you still need further south for an absolute guarantee of hot, swimming pool-type weather.

My family goes to the Myrtle Beach area every April during Boston school vacation week, which is generally in the middle of the month. Maybe we%26#39;ve been unusually lucky, but we%26#39;ve always had good weather almost every day. Usually the highs have been in the 70s and 80s! Highs in the 50s just have not been our experience at all. We do go swimming in the ocean, but most of our swimming is in the pool. I always just check the 10-day forecast right before we leave and plan accordingly.

We generally have a group of 12+ people and we always rent a large house on the oceanfront with a pool. In the past we%26#39;ve used Dunes Realty, but we just switched to Seaside Realty and this year we%26#39;re going to stay in a gorgeous house in Garden City Beach that we saw last April. (www.seasiderentalsonline.com) We really like Surfside Beach and Garden City Beach. They%26#39;re much quieter than MB, but close enough when you want MB action.

You definitely need a heated pool in April because the pools tend to be on the east side of the house and don%26#39;t get enough hours of sun to really heat up with passive solar.

With the size of your group and the fact you%26#39;re renting a house, I assume you%26#39;re planning to do a lot of cooking in rather than eating out. You might want to be sure to check whether the house comes with a grill. If not, most of the rental agencies will rent one for you for the week. It gets delivered before you arrive and picked up on the day you leave. Also, you should be aware that most of the houses come with absolutely NO paper products stocked---in other words, no toilet paper, paper towels, napkins. If you%26#39;re driving, you might want to bring that stuff so that you don%26#39;t have to go shopping immediately. Also, if you%26#39;re driving, you might want to bring your own soda and beer, since they seem to be oddly high priced in the MB area.

If you want some good takeout near you, try Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Murrells Inlet. Painters Homemade Ice Cream on 17 will also be a big hit.

Hope you have a great time! If you do, then you might want to spend a little time one day looking around at houses so that you can identify a few that you can try to reserve for the following year. Different agencies have different rules on when rentals can be made, so that%26#39;s worth checking out too.

Apologies---I misread cbr__guest%26#39;s post. S/he said LOWS in the 50s, but I thought it said highs. Lows in the 50s definitely would not be unusual. It can be damp and chilly after sunset.
