We are planning a vacation to Myrtle Beach the 1st full week of June (I think it may fall on Senior Week) and are having troubles deciding between Holiday Sands North or Holiday Sands South, their prices seem great and the have the admenities we are looking for. My question- which one has the better location? My hubby wants to be somewhat close to a pier, I would like to be able to walk to some attractions. We will have our 2 girls with us (ages 10 and 3), and noise factor does not bother them. Also which one is closer to Broadway at the Beach (has a few places we would like to visit). Thank you!
Which hotel should we chose?
I do not recommend staying anywhere South on Ocean Blvd from the Old Pavillion area. You mention wanting to walk places, that is an area in transition and while there are some new developments, there are many older mom-pop motels/hotels, some closed, it is not an area I would walk anywhere. You will find some people who say they have stayed there and it was fine, I live here and I would not stay there. Broadway at the Beach is 21st Ave N to 29th Ave N on Bypass 17, you are better off at the north location. There is a pier at 14th Ave N. Yes it is Senior Week, but that week is preferable to the weeks prior to it as our month of May is majority Bike Weeks, when one ends the other is beginning. As far as walking with your children to activities there are a few things downtown but I recommend driving over to Broadway, across the street is the water park and Nascar park.
Which hotel should we chose?
The Holiday Sands North is less than 2 blocks (if that) to 2nd Ave Pier....decent little restaurant there on the pier....not for sure tho%26#39; what the summer months will be like in that area...as the Pier View Motel is in the process of being torn down as well as the smaller hotel located next door...these properties are located in the block south of Holiday Sans North. The next pier heading south would be located at approx 33rd Ave South and Holiday Sands South is located in the 24th Ave South area...so a bit over a mile to the pier (not a bad walk tho%26#39;) I tend to disagree with MagicKat that the south end is a bad place to stay....granted there is quite a bit of construction down that way...The area from about 4th Ave N and south isnt bad....and we do have the local trolley (bus) service that runs the full length of the Blvd so getting from your hotel over to Broadway at the Beach isnt bad either.
Have fun!
:)
Holiday Sands South is building a new resort. Their web sight says that it will be finished in spring of 07. It looks like it will be nice when finished.
I havce stayed at the south and north ones and I liked Holidays Sands South better. The main reason is because it was cleaner when we stayed there.
Here is there web address

Fanofsteelers,
did you pick one yet?I was wondering about this 2 hotels as well. The holiday sands south looks nicer.Anyone else have any info on these resorts?
anyone?
I haven%26#39;t stayed at either of those places but I have stayed in the South Myrtle Beach area at the Seacrest Resort %26amp; Coral Beach. I did not feel unsafe.
If you are going during senior week though, I would re-think staying in the South Myrtle Beach area. It is crazy !!!!
I think maybe what MagiCat meant as a bad area was the area IMMEDIATELY south of the former Pavillion....but beyond that, the further south you go, the more it is mostly just nice hotels along Ocean Blvd., so I can%26#39;t imagine why anyone would feel unsafe walking around.
Anything in the teens on up (South Avenues) you should be fine.
I agree with daddio about what he said. Stay in the South avenues in MB and they should be fine.
We have not decided yet. We are leaning more towards the Holiday Sands South though. Out of curiosity though- is it close any attractions on Ocean Blvd? Like Family Kingdom or the Ripley%26#39;s Museum (my oldest loves Ripley%26#39;s museums)? Also, is there any resturants that you like near there? We would like to walk as much as we can (the youngest will be in a stroller though!).
If you are walking the north location is only 4 blocks to Ripley%26#39;s and a few more to Family kingdom. But,I still think the south location will be nicer a nicer hotel since it is newer.I called the south location and they said they got new carpets, mattress, new appliances, and just finished painting.I am pretty sure I will pick the south location unless I find a better price some where else.
