myrtle beach wedding in july

my fiance%26#39; and i are trying to plan a wedding in myrtle beach. we are looking into different reception sites. we have really been interested in lakewood camping resort. they have a conference center. has any one had a bad/ good experience here?

i would like to know any way at all people have saved money in decorations. i am looking for chandelier%26#39;s, or lights to glitz up the place.

i am doing hydrandeas as flowers and do not know a good mytle beach florist that is affordable

also, we are having the actual ceremony in north myrtle at a beach house, on the beach. i am looking for a piece that is more like a 4 stand trellis with a white square cloth that connects the four poles. i can not find this anywhere. i do not like the usual arch for weddings that much.

any one with houses they are trying to rent out for summer?

thankyou!

Hey there Heidi!

First off...congrats! I love helping out with weddings...in fact, used to do alot of that here at the beach, and still do help out some of my friends still in that industry...so lets see....

First off...affordable florist --- a couple options here...Lazelle%26#39;s which is located off Broadway Street in Downtown MB (google and you should find) and maybe a few more $$ but the guys are wonderul there is NMB Florist. I have worked with both of these florist (and a number of others) and they just seem to be just as excited and willing to help as tho they are the ones getting married! Tom and Bill are at NMB Florists and I think Chris is still at Lazelle%26#39;s. As for the arch that you are looking for...you may check with them, let them know what your ';dream wedding'; would be and then tell them what your budget is....you%26#39;d be amazed at the ways you can trim costs.

Is there a reason that you cant have the reception at the beach house? That way your guests dont have to travel and it really helps with the flow of things...plus traveling from NMB to Lakewood Campground (depending on time of year) would take a while. I have helped out with many a reception at a beach house. Tent rentals are usuually less than a reception hall...and some reception halls make you use certain caterers...so be sure to ask. I%26#39;m not real familiar with the Lakewood conference center, sorry.

As for inexpensive decorations...one of the prettiest weddings I was involved in was very minimal in decorations...cheap white christmas lights, tons of candles, and the bride had gone to the local thrift stores to get different things to put the candles in...white linens on the tables, each table had a large hurricane globe with a scattering of shells and a bit sand....and nothing but sunflowers all over the place...so you could do something like that and replace the sunflowers with hydrangeas....and for food, and all out lowcountry pig picking (pork, seafood, fruit, cheese, veggies, salads) Made the elegant setting have a really relaxed feel.

For houses in NMB Elliot realty is a good place to start...there are a number of them there that are more than ample to hold everything there.

If you need anything else...let me know!

I agree w/ MB Conc. you and your guests will probably not enjoy the travel time/distance from North MB to Lakewood. I am a huge ';less is more'; when it comes to weddings. The point of the wedding is to celebrate with your family and friends. There are many resorts in N. MB that have large rooms, check out Ocean Drive Resort, where Spanish Galleon is located. They have 2 floors above the Galleon overlooking the ocean.

Thanks so much for the replies! We are going on Sunday to check everything out, and we will better see what you all mean about the drive....hmmm.

north myrtle is where they allow you to marry on public beach (like your beach house beach) whereas myrtle you can only marry in private areas. This is why we chose to have the reception in north myrtle. but nothing is set in stone. i have just heard it can be a nightmare trying to have a backyard reception, and i know there will not be enough room in the beach house for almost 200 guests- not to mention heat problems.

How are public cabs in myrtle, are they used often enough that they are not super expensive?

we shall see when we get there sunday.

thanks for the tips and also about the great florist referral

could you post what you find out? I am planning to marry on the beach in NMB on 8/4/07 and barely know where to begin...thanks!

Heidi...

You didnt mention what time of day the ceremony/recption is plannd for...but most of the time we have a wonderful sea breeze kick up in the afternoon, and you would be amazed at the difference in temps from the beach to just a few miles inland. And with the large outdoor tents being white, they tend to ';repel'; the heat a bit....most tent rental companies will have cooling fans to rent too (and you can do that last minute if the temps are really going to be high).

As for cab compnaies, they are regulated by the communities they serve as to how much per mile they can charge. And they HAVE to run meteres...the only way to get around this is to contract them directly. This way they can quote you a special rate for your party, and you can have a few cabs running transport from point A to B....or a large limo (we have a few companies that have limos that can carry up to 21 people at a time) check out Beach Boys Taxi (Van is the owner) or Extreme Limos (www.scextremelimo.com) Frank Sealy is the owner of this company.

Let us know what you find out....its that time of year for beach wedding planning! I%26#39;ll do what I can to help!

As always, I come along as the kill joy. Remember Summer is Hurricane Season. April to November. Just be sure to have a back up plan, which you should no matter what part of the country you plan an outdoor wedding. You have a nice family that is allowing an outdoor wedding, I absolutely forbide my daughter to plan an outdoor wedding, as we had enough stress planning an indoor one. And remember your older guests the heat in the summer is very hard on them, please be sure to have shade.

I was just at the wedding show at the convention center a couple of weeks ago. Our son is getting married outside in August at the Hilton. Reception will be indoors in their 16th floor banquet room.

At the show I did see a display for a company that has plenty of rental options. There were several florists and if if we hadn%26#39;t already picked someone I would have been happy with many of the companies that were there. All of their displays were beautiful and very creative.

MB Concierge has been so very helpful! She knows the area better than anyone and gives great advice and ideas! She gave me some recommendations last summer and we were able to plan our son%26#39;s wedding in one week while we were on vacation there.

We are using Mark Gladden designs for the florist. Hart to Heart for the videography. Young Photography for the regular photography.

I will have to look up the baker%26#39;s name as I don%26#39;t have it in front of me. He works out of a commercial kitchen in North Myrtle Beach (also a recommendation from MB Concierge) and his cakes are beyond fantastic! My son found a dj as well.

We do have a back up plan in case of bad weather. Fortunately there are plenty of options inside the HIlton. Our middle son was married this past July in upstate New York. The reception was outside at our home (150 guests). We had a huge tent just in case. And it%26#39;s a good thing we did cause the weather couldn%26#39;t have been any worse. A tornado went over the church during the ceremony! Tornados in Upstate New York, never before! In any case, the tent was fine, everyone had the time of their lives and we partied till the wee hours of the morning!

We had huge barn fans in the back of the tent in case it was too hot and we ended up using them to dry everything!

I love outdoor weddings, just can%26#39;t let the potential for bad weather frighten you. We just returned from a wedding in Minneapolis. Who gets married in the middle of January in the snow belt? Well, the weather was absolutely perfect. A clear sky with all the stars out.

Just be flexible and prepared!

I agree....being prepared is the key to a successful wedding...being it inside or out. And tents just add a nice touch (plus they are very functional) for an outdoor wedding....great place for shade, or just in case that liquid sunshine we have here every now and then.

My son and daughter-in-law had an outdoor reception at our house here....and at first they were convinced that they would not need a ';plan B';....but, since I had been involved in helping with a number of weddings and other outdoor functions....we had a tent....which covered our deck area where our main buffet was located (along with a roasted pig).....the days leading to the reception included heavy rainshowers...in fact we were hanging up lights in the rain! But, the evening of the reception...it was dry as a bone, but the tent all lit up just added to the ambience.....

Mark Gladden...gosh, I cant beleive I forgot to mention him....he is also very good....is amazing with exotic flowers and tropicals! The baker/wedding cake designer extrodinaire is Irvin Peiria from Icey pastry Productions...his cakes are superior to anythng I have had here at the beach....and he is VERY creative! His # is 843-361-0252. Call ahead for a tasting appointment.

Enjoy your special day!

:)

Thanks MB Concierge! I didn%26#39;t have Irvin%26#39;s name handy. I%26#39;ve been to my fair share of weddings too and his cakes are outstanding!

If you call Mark Gladden do tell him that the New York people can%26#39;t wait to see him again!
