They both seem to be newly renovated with hot breakfast in the rates.They are both about the same prices.My hubby and son really like to be able to hang out at the pier.I do not think there is a pier near Monterey bay?I also believe Monterey is a suite for the price of a standard room at Spring maid?any thoughts?Thanks?

I really like the area of Monteray Bay...so, IMO...thats where I would go...you are correct that Monteray Bay is a suite style room...you do enter thru the bedroom area, then the bath is off to the left (or right) proceed thru a full kitchen (equipped) into the living room area which also has a murphy bed...and they have nice large balconies!
The closest pier is Apache...within walking distance (approc 1.25 miles) great place to watch the fisherman! And they have a decent little restaurant there that serves up a good Friday Night Fish Fry.
You are a bit closer to some of the local attractions, and not far at all to some of my fav restatuants!

In which direction is that pier north or south?Is there anything within walking distance of the hotel(ex.restaurants,putt-putt,or gift shops)?Thanks for your help.
I would not stay at Springmaid for sure. I have had bad experiences there each time so I figured three was enough.
Apache Pier is north of Monteray Bay...as for other things to do close by...most of the hotels there either have a beach front bar or restaurant on property...St Clements is a heavy local fav, they are located at 2 places north of Monteray...River City (great burgers!) is just in front of Ocean Reef (On ocean blvd), gift shops in a number of the resorts along thru there, or you can walk approx 4 blocks over to Kings Hwy where you will find a small shopping area (Wacky Rabbit, Sams Corner, and a number of other boutiques) as well as a Stein Mart, Wild Birds, Food Lion (grocery). A number of great restaurants...Collectors Cafe, Liberty Tap Room, Villa Mare, China Dragon, Atlanta Bread...
