golfing in myrtle beach

We are planning a golf vacation in April and was wondering if anyone has any names or info on what and where to golf, price info also.

Thanks

Hi Sherry,

There are a few important questions that you need to answer first...

Are you working with a budget, or is money not really an issue?

Will you need accomodations?

Are you flying in, and if so will you need a rental vehicle?

Do you want to stay at a golf course, or do you prefer the beach?

If you can answer these, then we will all be able to give you better advice on what might work best for your situation. It would be easy for me to recommend that you play the top shelf courses (with hefty surcharges) and stay at the nicest beachfront condo, and eat at the best restaurants. However, this may not work for you.

April is the springtime peak golfing season. It is a good thing that you are thinking about this sooner rather than later. There are some wonderful resources available to you through this forum and I%26#39;m certain that we can all save you some valuable time via our recommendations.

We really need to know the answers to the above questions as well as how many people are in your group, etc.

My recommendation on a good resource to get started would be to go to www.mbn.com You can familiarize yourself with an idea of what some basic costs are.

Good luck

I like mbn.com also.

Some of the better known golf packaging hotels are Breakers,Long Bay ,Grande Shores and Crown Reef. Theres also the Golf Desk run by Brian Noblin and they will set up everything for you.

So get on the phone or internet and compare rates.Variables are breakfasts, cart fees,no surcharges etc.Make sure you know exactly what your getting.

Keep in mind the better ,high surcharge courses will bring up the cost if you book a few of them.

Prime Ti

mes offers Kings North(top of the line), Long Bay,Waterway Hills, Willbrook, etc. for a good price that attracts many customers.

Thanks everyone for your info. We are staying on the north beach in a rented house. there are7 of us and we are flying in so we will be renting a car. I would not like to pay over 100.00 per round a person, since we will be golfing all week. Any more info would be great.

Thanks again

Sherry

If you have rented a house you will probably have to set up your own courses. For a fee the Golf Desk may do this for you but you may just as well be able to do it yourself.

If you stay within certain groupings like Primetimes,Legends, or the Classic Group you can get some discounts.

Some good mid priced Myrtle Beach courses are River Hills,Pearl,Crow Creek,Black Bear,Possum Trot,Sand Piper Bay,and Myrtlewood.

The Witch,Wizzard, and Man O War usually offer a good discount if you play all 3.

Stay away from Cypress Bay,Island Green and River Oaks.

My advice is get on the phone and start comparing rates. You might want to select a dozen or so courses and then narrow it down with the help of people on this forum.

If you have never been to Myrtle you may want to play at least 1 marsh course for the experience.Pearl may be the best priced. Other marsh courses are River Edge, Oyster Bay and Tidewater.

Good Luck

Thanks Tonymik

This will be our first trip to myrtle beach and I received a new set of golf clubs for Christmas so can%26#39;t wait to try them out!

Just one more question, does a marsh course mean that there are gators hanging out?

It%26#39;s been known to happen! Some of those guys really like the cart parths to sun themselves on! LOL......I%26#39;ve only seen this once, but I do have to admit it was pretty cool! I was really with some friends (just not a golfer) at Pawleys Plantation....and, there he was...but as he heard us approach he just looked our way and wandered off. Does make you wonder how far off the course they go! Ha!

:)

Camic,

Are you asking because you do or don%26#39;t want to see them? Biggest and most gators I have ever seen have been at Oyster Bay.Played both Pearl and Tidewater about 3 times over the years and never seen any there.

Funbeaches.com has many great pictures of golf courses, check them out.Golfholiday.com and otgmag.com can supply you with phone#s

If you are the planner ,remember that you can%26#39;t always please everyone. Some considerations for high handicappers might be courses without housing.

Tony

We will be heading down for our 21st annual MB Golf Trip this spring.

Over the years we%26#39;ve seen a lot of gators at Willbrook and Oyster Bay, two of our favourite courses.

If you package three courses at one location - for example, Tiger%26#39;s Eye, Panther%26#39;s Run and Lion%26#39;s Paw - you can get a great rate.

Same for the Myrtle Beach National company which runs MB National (play three and you can get on the famed North Course), Willbrook, River Club, Waterway Hills and about six others.

The most fabulous courses we%26#39;ve played recently are at Barefoot - the Love and Fazio tracks. They may have a deal, too. More expensive but incredibly sculpted and maintained.

Some advice: Rent your vehicle off the airport property and save some $$. I think the MB National company is tied in with U-Save, so check their web site for some possible savings.

More advice: If you%26#39;re going at the end of April, check ahead on the courses you%26#39;ve selected to see if they are aerating the greens.
