weather and resort ??

We are arriving beginnig of may the week before bike week, what is the weather typically like then?

ALSO we are staying at the Avista for the first time, we stayed at long bay last year wanted a change, any news on the avista? hope its nice!!

Thanks

weather and resort ??

Have heard several positive reviews on Avista. Only negative comments were pretty minor. Think one was lack of counter space in a bathroom.

Fairly new building. Great location. Sits between Ocean Drive and Cherry Grove stoplights. Quick hop in car to stores and restaurants on Main Street and Sea Mountain Highway. If young or young at heart it%26#39;s not a bad walk. Can find pretty much anything you will need without going out on Rt 17.

Weather is unpredictible. We were there in NMB mid May a few years ago and it was very warm. Laid in sun and swam in outdoor pool and lazy river. Ocean water was still too cold for swimming.

Last year in mid May it was much cooler and windy. One day warm enough to lay on beach and the next too cool. It was bike week so on cooler days we went to bike shows. Worked out pretty good.

  • Sea Island Inn by owner

I thought that Sea Island Inn were condos that people could purchase. If this is the case, where could I find a rental by owner?

    Sea Island Inn by owner

I found one at www.vrbo.com under OTHER PROPERTIES in Myrtle Beach but it%26#39;s a larger three-bedroom unit. You may find more there but I didn%26#39;t see Sea Island listed separately with the other properties so have a closer look at OTHER PROPERTIES. In my conversation with Steve Chapman, general manager, he said Sea Island units are privately owned and about 90% of the owners put them up for rentals, either through the hotel or outside agency.

    Thanks uacturbo.

It seems like there would be more listed somewhere. Hopefully someone else will know of another place to check.

  • Spa and/or Charlseton SC??

Looking for a well located special place to stay for up to a week t(in March 07) to celebrate 60th BD with husband..not been to area to stay? Suggestions? too long a time for one place? other Spa/etc. in that area? Thanks!

    Spa and/or Charlseton SC??

Check The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island. Elegant hotel with excellent, pampering service plus a great spa and easy trip into Charleston. Expensive, but wonderful.

    Spa and/or Charlseton SC??

I second the Sanctuary at Kiawah, but also add Charleston Place ( dowtown). You could actually split the week between the two places for a great trip.

Greetings! If you haven%26#39;t booked your trip already, consider a place like the Vendue Inn in the heart of Downtown Charleston. The Spa is not located on the property but it is so close. Assistance with acquiring all services is available, and a few services are included in your room rate. Several spas are within walking distance and some services can be in-room. Give them a call and see what can be arranged.

Myrtle Beach Area 8 Bedroom Home to Rent

What a zillion places on the internet for Myrtle Beach? Any ideas on picking a nice home/cottage rental for a family of 10 adults l teen 2 little ones. Would like at least an ocean view under $3000 or is that an impossibility? July 21-28 ish Help!

Myrtle Beach Area 8 Bedroom Home to Rent

Here are two sites for North Myrtle Beach. You could probably get by with less than 8 bedrooms. Most rentals come with a master bedroom with one bed and all the other bedrooms would have two double or queen beds each. Four to five bedrooms would probably do the trick. Little ones love blow up mattresses at the beach.

A single large oceanfront house will run in the $5000 range in July. Block or two back the rates are about half that.

They do have oceanfront duplexes. Two, three and four rentals in one building. Two examples would be Sun Chase and Sweet Caroline on the Elliott site. Both in your price range. Might even find one with a pool.

Cherry Grove section of NMB has a backwater marsh with rows of channel houses. Back of house is on the channel. Most have docks for fishing. Some of the larger ones have pools and game rooms.

Short 3-4 block walk to beach for the adults and teens. Several public parking areas at the beach if you wanted to drive little ones over in the car.

I%26#39;ll just add a few other places to search...

www.vrbo. com (these are vacation rentals by owner...sometime some very good rates)

And a realty company that I have used when family comes to town....www.booerealty.com

    Good luck on the hunt!

    :)

Best bet for cottages is Surfside and south (Litchfield Beach). Most of Myrtle and North Myrtle are condos/hotels. Being late (that is not booking last year) you might find it hard to get something right on the ocean and the ocean ones are more expensive. You can get many cottages just a street away. My sister rented a few times in Litchfield. It%26#39;s away from the hustle and bustle but not far for a drive to Myrtle.

I believe this www.surfsiderealty.com/rental/query.html is who my sister has used to book. They have a nice query feature to see if it is available and to input your requirements.

Cherry Grove in North Myrtle is loaded w/ beach and channel houses.

Hello, good luck in your search.. I will be staying in Garden City the middle of July and we booked through Dunes.com. We have stayed in their houses the past several years and have been quited pleased with their service. We booked an 7 bedroom 7.5 bath and I believe it was like 8000+. It is ocean front with a pool. Like the other above have stated staying across the street will save you tons of cash!!

Others are Garden City Realty, Seaside Realty these are Garden City, Surfside Beach area!

    Good luck!!

Has anyone ever stayed in 2 room apartment Nv Long Bay?

Wanted to know about these rooms. It has one king bed in one room and 2 queen beds in another.Any help is appreciated. Thanks

    RV's in Charleston

My husband and I are planning a trip down the coast from NC to GA. The endof January. We want to spend sometime in Charleston. Are there any RV campgrounds in the area or parking in town for an RV? We are not opposed to renting a car if possible and staying out of the city. Any help would be appreciated. Also any other places we should make it our business to see alnog the way. Beaches? Islands? Savannah, GA is our other big stop and RV issues are the same. once again any help would be appreciated.

    RV's in Charleston

I am not sure if there are any RV campgrounds, but there is one in North Charleston, but I don%26#39;t know how safe that is. Plus, it is a drive to downtown. There may be one also north of Mt. Pleasant towards, Awendaw... ? not sure. As for RV parking downtown, I would say no. The streets are very narrow and just getting an RV to a parking spot would be hard. If you wanted to stay downtown and are going to be sleeping in the RV, then there are some uncovered public parking spots by the Riverdogs stadium but you would have to call the police department to see if you can stay there overnight (also that lot is used by the medical university during the day to park). Another option is calling the Charleston Riverview Hotel (soon to be the Marriott?). I know they are having specials right now for like $69/night, and parking is included with that price (all uncovered outside). So, maybe you could just rent the room and sleep in your RV and then you wouldn%26#39;t get in trouble for sleeping in their parking lot. That is also near the Riverdogs stadium (';The Joe';). That way you can take a bus, taxi, or maybe even the hotel shuttle dowtown and you wouldn%26#39;t have to rent a car.

    RV's in Charleston

Here is a list of campgrounds in South Carolina rv-clubs.us/southcarolina_rv_campgrounds.htm… You don%26#39;t want to be driving the RV in the downtown area, that%26#39;s for sure though you may only need to take a cab in and out. Do a google for rv campgrounds in Georgia and you%26#39;ll probably find the same list as the one for South Carolina.

You should make an effort to visit one of the plantations in the area. As to beaches, it%26#39;s not swimming season but it%26#39;s always nice to visit Folly Beach and Sullivans Island no matter the time of year. Most of the islands are gated and you can%26#39;t access unless your staying there but Folly Beach and Sullivans are accessible.

There is a campground on Hwy 17 South near Redtop (south of downtown Charleston) that accomodates RVs. It is called Oak-something; I can%26#39;t remember the exact name. It is near the intersection of Hwy 17 with Bees Ferry Road. Edisto Beach State Park also has a campground right on the beach; I see lots of RVs there when at Edisto It is around south of 45 miles downtown Charleston.

I wouldn%26#39;t attempt to drive an RV downtown. I remember as a child riding on school buses through the downtown streets (which were MUCH less congested then than they are now) and what close calls we had with other vechicles and how many tree limbs the bus would ';brush by';. Most of the public parking downtown is in parking garages that won%26#39;t even accomodate a custom van, much less an RV. I would rent a car to sightsee around the area, especially downtown.

  • hotel for honeymoon? or should we look elsewhere?

We are planning a honeymoon this June 17-24th. Several people have suggested MB. I have never been, she has been with her family. She doesnt remember it as a place for honeymooners- but several people have said that has changed slightly. So we are both open minded.

I am a very hyper person. I have never been to the beach- but cant imagine just being happy laying on the beach all day. I need to go do stuff. She on the other hand would love to stay in a ocean front room where she could just walk out on the beach. lol. I liked MB for the wide array of activities offered. We dont need a spa, or someting super fancy. Would like something clean, kinda nice, and in a good location for activities. (hope this hotel exists outside my mind)

Could you recomend some hotels? Been reading reviews. Would like to keep it to $200 a night, maybe cheaper. Or is there another beach local we should be considering?

hotel for honeymoon? or should we look elsewhere?

Well, I had my honeymoon in Ocean City, MD. I didn%26#39;t like it at all. Although it was in March and the coldest few days of the year. The hotel was nice but that%26#39;s about it. Since we couldn%26#39;t afford to go too far away from home we did what we had to do at the time. But that was years and years ago.

MB being a place for honeymooners all depends on what you like to do. I see you are from Kentucky so it%26#39;s not that far away. Your budget is about $200.00 per night and trying to get oceanfront rooms in June at that price might be a problem. And I particularly don%26#39;t like to go to a beach town and not stay on the beach.

MB has lots of nice restaurants. Casual and Romantic ones for a nice night out. Remember MB is still a hot family vacation spot. I suggest staying either in NMB, MB around the Avenues, the area around 21st Avenue and North or staying further south of MB like in Surfside, Garden City or Murrels Inlet. Don%26#39;t stay in the area where the Pavilion was or on SOUTH OCEAN BLVD.

    Hotels:

-Marriott Grand Dunes (www.myrtlebeachmarriott.com) probably the perfect honeymoon hotel. It is beautiful there. The beach is quiet and the hotel is set up and reminds you of something tropical. We walked around there while vacationing in the summer and I loved it.

    -Grande Shores (www.grandeshores.com)

-Breakers Paradise Towers (www.breakers.com) Make sure you ask for Paradise Towers

    -Sea Island Inn (www.seaislandinn.com)

There are others but these are nice and in good locations.

    Activities:

    -Palace Theatre: www.palacetheatremyrtlebeach.com

    -House of Blues

-Broadway at the Beach (www.broadwayatthebeach.com) Shopping, Dining, Nightlife

    -Carolina Opry (www.carolinaopry.com)

-Dixie Stampede (www.dixiestampede) this is something you may or may not like. But it could be fun.

And other attractions as well but just to name a few. Look under attractions on this site.

-Restaurants: Too many to name. Look under Dining in the site and you will see some restaurants and the comments.

    Romantic:

    The Library is good

Sea Captain%26#39;s House (I didn%26#39;t like the service for us and we left but everyone who was there seemed to be having a good time) And it%26#39;s oceanfront and you get a clear view of the ocean

hotel for honeymoon? or should we look elsewhere?

For a nice romantic dinner drive about 18 miles south to Murrells Inlet.There%26#39;s about 7 or 8 restaurants in a row located on what is called the marsh walk.Walking this boardwalk at night with the torches lit and stopping for a drink at one of the outdoor bars with entertainment is more romantic than the Library IMO.

Good restaurant choices are Divine Fish House and Drunken Jacks. The Banana Mandarin Grouper dish I had at Divines was excellent.

Marriott Grande Dunes is a super location for a honeymoon. As for entertainment, we are older and do not like just sitting on beach either. Broadway at the Beach is a great place to go for nightlife. We see lots of honeymooners here. MB has lower end accomodations, middle of the road, high end. You will find somewhere that fits what you are looking for.

Ditto to all of the above....MsMaryland has a great list for some hotel options....you might even look at our local ';bed and breakfast'; Seredippity Inn...not oceanfront, but within walking distance and may be more in your price range --- but they will pamper you like you wont beleive!

I agree with TonyMK on heading on down to Murrells Inlet...great area to walk around, listen to some wonderful music (all types) and feast on some wonderful seafood......have to note my favs there --- Hot Fish Club (love the outdoor gazebo area), Olivers Lodge (one of the oldest places there!) and Lee%26#39;s Inlet Kitchen (another longtimer!)

    Congrats...and enjoy!

    Reasonable choices near Hilton

Our son is getting married at the Hilton in August. Many of us will be staying in Kingston Plantation but am looking for other options that are nearby. Something within a 10-15 minute drive would be great. Looking to suggest places in all price ranges and Kingston may be a bit more than some can spend.

    Reasonable choices near Hilton

    Couple questions?

Are you talking for a week or just a few days? That time of year few places rent for less than a week. Even the motels look for two or three day stay.

Are you talking large groups, families or couples? Few miles north of Kingston is North Myrtle Beach. Depending on time of day it might be in 30 minute range for drive time to Kingston. Kings Road area can be grid lock in early evening. Where ever they stay they should keep that in mind and allow for delays.

Wide variety of small and large condos in NMB. Prices vary depending on distance from beach.

Many houses for larger groups. Same thing with pricing. That time of year houses and condos are by the week only.

Some will be staying 3 days and others for a week. I%26#39;ll pass on those 2 websites to my son and his fiance. They have also looked at VRBO.

Quite familiar with the traffic that time of year! It%26#39;s one of the reasons we love Kingston as we don%26#39;t really have to deal with it there. But we do need other options and thank you for your suggestions!

  • Advice Please on MB in summer?

Ive heard different things about Myrtle Beach

On one hand ive heard its a great place to go in the summer, with great nightlife,a real busy town, good weather, loads of women, good beach and good weather. For me this sounds like it would be a great place to go on J1 for 2 monthds or so?

Ive also heard negative things such as the police being way over the top!!And it wouldnt be a great place to go?

Any advice on whats true??We%26#39;ll a group of young 20 somethings. So were looking for a lively summer!

(sorry if im repeating the post below)

Advice Please on MB in summer?

First off, I have been going to MB for some years now. And where I stay I have only seen 1 police car cruising the street and just some driving home or to work. So that is a myth about the police. If you are on the beach mostly during the day, you won%26#39;t see anyone but lifegurads or beach patrol whatever they call themselves and they don%26#39;t bother you either unless they see something suspicious. Also, I noticed that North MB has more police presence than the area near North Ocean Boulevard in MB. And South Ocean Boulevard near Family Kingdom has probably more as well.

I think during special holidays or events the police increase their presence as they should. i.e. 4th of July, Bike Week, Memorial Day, etc. That being said, they don%26#39;t actually harass you if you aren%26#39;t doing something you shouldn%26#39;t be doing. MB is probably the best beach town I have been to where the Police DON%26#39;T bother you; compared to VA Beach, OC MD, Daytona, etc.

That being said, 20 somethings there is lots of nightlife (from what I hear and have seen) I am beyond that age and have a family of 3 children (4 including the husband) so I don%26#39;t frequent bars or clubs.

But I did notice that Broadway at the Beach was pretty thick with young people at the various bars and hang out spots that they had.

Bummz on the Beach was a fun looking place. It was right next door to our hotel (Breakers Paradise Towers) and there is live music and bands and that type thing.

Someone else on here can offer more specific information

Advice Please on MB in summer?

thanks, and would it be big enought to stay in for 2 months, you wouldnt get bored??sounds like there are lots of activities

Summer time the crowds lean more to family activities. Still plenty of singles and nightlife. Not a Mardis Gras or Las Vegas type atmosphere if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re looking for.

Police not way over the top. They%26#39;re just doing their job. Won%26#39;t tolerate public intoxcation or drunk driving.

Its a great place for young and old alike. We are 49/54 yrs old and absolutely love the night life here, we are doing something all the time. Keeps us young. Where ever we go its always a mix from the 20 somethings on up and everyone has fun. I repeat, Broadway at the Beach is exactly what you are looking for. As for the police, they are not into harrassing people not breaking the law. If you are doing something you should not be then chances are they will find you. I don%26#39;t think I have ever heard MB police officers being accused of harrassing, except from people who deserved to be harrassed. Bike Weeks in May will have stronger police presence. It will be VERY HOT during the summer, most likely during the day you would want to hang out around pool/ocean. Evenings go to great restaurants/night life. You will not be disappointed in MB

    Marriott Residence Inn

I herad the Marriott residence Inn is going condo. HHI guy where exactly is the MRI?

    Marriott Residence Inn

It has been sold %26amp; going through a major renovation. The rooms are being sold as hotel condos. You purchase a room have use of it for a set amount of days per year. The rest of the time, the hotel rents it out as a hotel. It is located just in front of Shipyard %26amp; Palmetto Dunes off of 278. The new name is Park Lane Hotel %26amp; Suites. Hope this helps!

    Marriott Residence Inn

Who%26#39;s actually selling these? And are they on the net? I can%26#39;t find them listed on the HH multiple listing service, but they%26#39;re not on the Triton website, either.

Why visit Myrtle Beach in the winter?

I%26#39;m really curious. For 40 years, Myrtle Beach has been a summer vacation destination for my family. I%26#39;ve also visited in March to play golf with ';the guys.'; But, I see where many people here are asking questions about vacationing with their children in December, January and February.

I%26#39;m curious about what the attraction is this time of year? I love MB as much as anyone, and I know why we enjoy our vacation in the summer so much! But, I am sincerely interested in why people vacation in the winter... especially to MB, where the temps will run from 30 to 50 degrees today.

Why visit Myrtle Beach in the winter?

Majority of people here in the winter time are ';Snow Birds';, from Canada and much colder climates in US. Many of them are retired, have a 2nd home here, winter where it is much milder temps. Especially little chance of snow. There are still plenty of entertainment options, with the weather lately, no problem getting in a golf game. Having a 2nd home here, at one time was cheaper than FL, however, not sure that is the case now. For those asking about coming on vacation in winter months with children, I too find that a bit odd. Obviously, you can only swim indoors, fewer options to keep them entertained. I guess its more of a ';we have some vacation time, where can we drive to, and not cost arm and leg. Amusement parks are closed, the Ripley%26#39;s Aquarium is open, which is very nice.

Why visit Myrtle Beach in the winter?

We are coming in March for a cheer competition. I suppose it is because the venue is cheaper at that time and hotel availability for the all the teams that are coming. But, until I got on this board, I hadn%26#39;t realized that it was cold in MB in March. I always thought it was like Florida and warm in the winter.

We always make at least one trip down in the winter for a quick getaway. The prices are unbelievable for the hotels, and most of the restaurants/bars we frequent are open and usually quite busy. We were just there over New Years Eve and that Saturday is reached 70 degress, so the weather can be great this time of year too, maybe not warm enough to swim in the ocean, but good enough for strolls on the beach, etc. Plus, it is just a peaceful time of year w/ out all the crowds, etc. We felt sometimes we had the whole beach to ourselves! My next trip will be in June though, and I love that time of year too!

Why? It%26#39;s cheap, close to home, has great shopping, and is just a nice quick getaway. The weather is forecast to be in the 70%26#39;s this weekend, so very nice for shopping and strolling along the beach. I am not sure I would want to venture to Myrtle Beach during peak season! ; ) We reserve our vacation time for trips to Mexico and this year, to Disney World (ack, talk about crowds!: )), so this is not our yearly vacation by any means.

Another important consideration for some of us Northerners: Even if it is a bit chilly, the grass is green, the palmettos always look the same, summer or winter, and the live oaks retain their leaves. To someone who is used to looking at bare trees, gray skies and yellow-brown grass this time of year, just the sight of a place like MB makes us feel like it%26#39;s springtime!

I agree with the previous post. I live in Central New York, just got 10 inches of new snow last night. Not a skier and don%26#39;t like snowmobiling. I just returned from MB. Weather was unusually warm and it was great. We love all of the things there are to do there.

Brookgreen Gardens is beautiful anytime of year. Charleston is close enough for a day trip. Love the carriage ride there and the restaurants. Wilmington is also close enough for a day trip. A trip to Calabash to browse through Callahans and a stop at Calabash Creamery is always wonderful. Shopping at the outlets this time of year is an extra bargain, great sales! House of Blues has concerts. A wonderful selection of restaurants. Love time to just walk around Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing. New movie theater at Briarcliff Mall is great for those of us who are closer to North Myrtle Beach. Our kids love Myrtle Beach all year long. There are some things you can do there that many of you can do in your hometown. For us, we LOVE the beautiful scenery and the ability to walk the beach. If you%26#39;ve never lived where the skies are gray much of the year than it may be hard to understand why we drive 12-14 hours to get to paradise! I was in Orlando for 4 days the beginning of January and that%26#39;s fun but the traffic and crowds get old quick. Myrtle Beach is a comfortable destination. I will be back again in mid February for 2 weeks and I%26#39;m bringing 3 friends. Aged 19 - 35. They can%26#39;t wait!

You either like crowds or you don%26#39;t. Personally, I%26#39;ve never been to MB in the summer %26amp; have no desire to visit then. $200-$300/night for a room; Screaming kids over-running the beach %26amp; pool areas, waiting in line at restaurants, for elevators, sitting in traffic, hunting parking spaces, etc, etc. No thanks, I%26#39;ll pass.

As I type this, I%26#39;m watching yet another beautiful sunrise over the ocean...wish I knew how to post a photo of it...they%26#39;re so much better %26amp; clearer in the less humid winter months. Temps were in the 70%26#39;s just last weekend and are forecast to be the same again this weekend. Yes, people are on the beach in their swimsuits and a few are taking the plunge. No traffic, plenty of free parking, cheap hotel rates, nearly deserted beaches, indoor pools %26amp; spas....

    Did I answer your question?

PS: Not sure why kids would not be in school %26amp; be able to vacation in the winter months, but they would probably prefer the summer months when all the attractions are open.

We go to the beach year round, always have. Now we go with 4 kids under 10. Why? We can stay beachfront to watch the sunset, waves and beauty for 1/3 of the cost. We stay only at hotels with indoor heated pools to entertain the kids. We go to the shows--much less crowded and shop. Also if you have kids that love Magiquest you understand crowds.

Sea Island changes name to Island Vista

According to The Sun News, Myrtle Beach, S.C.McClatchy-Tribune Business News

    Jan. 4, 2007

Sea Island On The Beach has changed its name to Island Vista.

Sea Island changes name to Island Vista

Yes...not sure why ';island Vista';...but, it will probably always be ';Sea Island'; to us locals....kinda like the ';backgate area'; (the old airforce base area...hasnt been there in years, but we still call that area the backgate! LOL)

There is a Sea Island resort located in Georgia that has been around for years....and has known about the Sea Island here, and not really worried about it, UNITIL the Sea Island MB started rebuilding and going after more of the clientle that might come to the Sea Island in Georgia....its really going to cost the Sea Island MB alot of $$ to change everything over, but they have decided not to fight it and comply. Nice guys they are!

    :)

Sea Island changes name to Island Vista

    Wonder why?

It%26#39;s always been Sea Island to me, but there used to be 2 hotels that were bought out to become one, so did someone buy this one maybe?

I am always behind, I still miss the Ocean Forest :(

I know..it%26#39;ll still be Sea Island to me too! No, it was just the one property, they tore it down and rebuilt a place double the size of the original....its really nice!

Here%26#39;s the article describing ';why'; they agreed to the name change:

';Legendary Sea Island Resort in Georgia Forces Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Sea Island Inn to Change Name in Trademark Dispute

    By Dawn Bryant,

The Sun News, Myrtle Beach, S.C.McClatchy-Tribune Business News

    Jan. 4, 2007 -

What%26#39;s in a name? For the Sea Island Inn on the Beach, about $30,000 to $50,000.

That%26#39;s how much the resort will spend on signs and brochures to become the Island Vista -- a forced name change brought on by another ';Sea Island'; 281 miles away in Glynn County, Ga.

Turns out there%26#39;s not enough room on the Southeast coast for two resorts with the ';Sea Island'; name.

The Sea Island Company in Georgia, which has used the moniker since 1926, sued the resort of the same name in Myrtle Beach claiming it has had the sole right to ';Sea Island'; since trademarking it in 1985.

Instead of going through a lengthy and expensive legal battle, the Sea Island in Myrtle Beach settled the suit and is becoming the Island Vista, dropping a name it has used since 1968.

    ';We regret having to change the name, but it%26#39;s the best business decision we could make,'; said Steve Chapman, the Sea Island%26#39;s managing partner. ';Just do it and move on.';

Not even a year into its new oceanfront building in Myrtle Beach that replaced the more modest hotel, the Sea Island has had to buy a new sign, business cards, brochures and souvenirs. The final total isn%26#39;t in, but Chapman estimates the changeover will cost a sizeable amount -- but less than a legal fight.

The Sea Island in Georgia is protecting the name that has survived 80 years through four generations of the A.W. Jones family, which has owned and operated the resort since the 1920s, said Merry Tipton, the resort%26#39;s vice president of corporate communications.

';Our registered trademarks have been in place for many years, and we work vigorously to protect them,'; she said in a written statement.

The Sea Island in Georgia has known about the duplicate name since 1987, but didn%26#39;t take its objection to court until Myrtle Beach%26#39;s Sea Island built the new building, which opened in May, according to the lawsuit.

Combined with the Myrtle Beach hotel%26#39;s stepped-up advertising, the new property posed more of a threat to the Sea Island in Georgia and would ';tarnish and dilute the distinctiveness of Sea Island Company%26#39;s well-known Sea Island marks,'; the property said in its complaint.

';Unlike the old fashioned motel oriented toward an old Myrtle Beach clientele of budget-conscious family vacationers from the Carolinas, the new hotel is being promoted as an elegant, up-market luxury facility,'; the complaint says.

The $40 million renovation has raised the Sea Island%26#39;s reputation from a modest mom-and-pop to a lavish resort.

Still, the Myrtle Beach property is a long way from reaching the upscale feel of the Sea Island in Georgia.

The sprawling, AAA-rated five-diamond complex, which consumes five miles along the oceanfront, played host to President Bush and the G8 Summit of world leaders in 2004 and still offers coat-and-tie required dinners.

';They are fishing out of a different pond,'; Chapman said.

Most trademark cases are like this one and never make it to court, said Andy Gowder, an attorney with Pratt-Thomas, Epting %26amp; Walker in Charleston who specializes in trademark litigation.

They are expensive, so one side typically agrees to change the name or the colors or add words to distinguish it from the other, he said.

';Sometimes it just comes down to a business decision,'; Gowder said.

Sea Island - Margate Towers or Dunes Village Resort???

I think I%26#39;ve narrowed my search down to these 3 places, coming the week of July 4th. There will be 7 adults %26amp; 3 children. Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Sea Island - Margate Towers or Dunes Village Resort???

Don%26#39;t know anything about the accomadations. I would suggest changing weeks if possible. If it isn%26#39;t possible just be ready for larger crowds than the other summer weeks.

4th of July week is very, very crowded. Lines and wait times at restaurants and attractions are long during your typical summer week. Almost double 4th of July week.

Have heard comments from several people who always went that week in the past. Last few years it%26#39;s been so bad they%26#39;re switching to other weeks.

Few years back we were in NMB the week before the 4th. Wasn%26#39;t bad at all until Thursday and Friday. Places started filling up fast. When we left on Saturday it was gridlock coming in and we were glad we were going home. Well........Hated leaving the beach but didn%26#39;t mind missing the crowds.

Sea Island - Margate Towers or Dunes Village Resort???

Both places are located in one of my fav parts of MB...the beach in this area is wonderful! Nice and wide, a good mix of residential and hotels. A number of good places to eat and shop nearby. Both places opened last season, so are still ';new';....I would say Dunes Village has a big more elaborate pool area....and there is some construction right next door to Dunes Village currently...but they may be completed with that by the July 4th week.

Granted, MB can be crowded that time of year --- and yes, we do have really long waits at the more popular restaurants and the traffic is a bit heavier than ';normal';...but there is alot going on that week....and you cant beat the firework displays (both personal and public) along the oceanfront!

    :)

Agree with MBConcierge on all points. Our family has been coming down on 4th of July week for the last 6 years and my wife won%26#39;t even consider changing.

Haven%26#39;t actually stayed at either place, but have a home near Sea Island and toured the place. Sea Island looks very nice, the beach is wonderful and located in a very ';quiet'; area of MB. There is a smaller pool complex at Sea Island, but the atomsphere seemed more ';mature';. We were just in the Dunes Village complex last week and it looked very nice, but the pools are more geared to the kids. Also in a very nice area of the beach.

We go on the 4th, and it is a wonderful time. It is more crowded, than in off season, but with the new roads in MB and the a little advance planning, it will be a great trip!

Thanks for all the input. We traveled to Virginia Beach 2 years ago for the 4th of July and it was awesome that being said that%26#39;s why we picked this week. Unfortunately we didn%26#39;t care for Virginia Beach as a whole so we thought we%26#39;d try Myrtle Beach.

Our kids think the fireworks are incredible at the beach!

Any comments on Margate Tower in Kingston Planation?

Kingston Plantation is a nice complex too....a bit removed (far to drive) to some of the centrally located attractions, i.e., Broadway on the Beach, Nascar speedpark...but quite a bit closer to Barefoot Landing and Alligator Adventure. Its a large complex with quite a bit of amenities...you might check some of the reviews of these 3 properties to the left of this forum.

    :)

I can not say enough nice things about our stay at Sea Island. That being said I have a two year old and he was happy with the pools but if he was older the Dunes Village would probably be better.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites- Kingston Plantation this summer. The Margate Tower is beautiful and the grounds at KP are very nice. I would recommend staying there especially with children. There are many pools including an interactive pool for kids. We did visit friends at the Sea Island- this property is new and beautiful. The location is quiet and in a residential area (small playground across the street). You would probably be happy here too. Good luck!

We stayed at the Sea Island last year with 7 kids (12-16) and they all enjoyed themselves. Especially the boys as they have a basketball hoop in one of their pools and the depth was just right. We had 6 adults, 7 kids and rented a 4-bdrm unit and a 1 bedroom unit - plenty of room! Location on the beach was nice also - no high risers nearby, quite residential area. Loved and hope to go back soon.

  • Myrtle Beach

Any use for young 20 somethings??heard its a lively enough place, would be planning on an extended stay.Would it be any use for a roadtrip??From Myrtle to somewhere??

    Myrtle Beach

Depends of the time of year you are looking at visiting. Right now...not ,much happening, but as our summer season approaches, things come back to life and there is alot to do. We have a number of international students work here in the summer in the hotel/restaurant industry or as beach lifeguards. And the area clubs are pretty busy....especially the ones located at and around Broadway at the Beach (www.broadwayatthebeach.com)

As for a road trip from Myrtle Beach...Charleston, Wilmington or even Savannah or the Outer Banks...especially if you are looking at spending some time on the east coast. Charleston is one of my fav road trips..you can make it there in approx 2 hours...but I always prefer to spend at least an overnight there...alot to do and some great food and music!

    :)

    Myrtle Beach

yes we would be heading in the summer, staying june, july, august??so its busy during these months??Is it popular with people 21/22 years old??any tips?

Is there anyway of getting a train/driving to South Florida??how long would it take?

Myrtle Beach has something for everyone. 21 and up, there are some good clubs, especially at Broadway at the Beach. As for ';train'; service, Southeastern US is not really a ';train'; mecca. I believe you might find an Amtrak somewhere in SC going to somewhere in FL, but thats iffy. Driving from Myrtle Beach to Orlando, FL (Disney World) approximately 9-10 hours, thats the middle of the state. It would be a good 12+ hours to get toward South FL. The Southeast coast NC/SC/GA/FL is a nice drive. You will go thru many small towns, all have some kind of charm to them. Charleston SC is a great town, as is Savannah, GA. July/August are very busy times here and you will experience alot of traffic, but thats any city. You have many options as to where to stay, I do recommend Myrtle Beach and not North Myrtle, or Cherry Grove, nor Surfside/Garden City. You mentioned ';lively'; trip and staying in Myrtle Beach proper give you more lively. Other areas are more family oriented, little quieter and more spread out.

Found this on Amtrak site. There is a train route nearby. Well......Maybe 60 miles from the beach. Train stops in Dillon.

    www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer…

';so its busy during these months??Is it popular with people 21/22 years old??any tips?

As MagicKat noted...very popular with the mid twenties group...and a pretty diverse crowd it is here that time of year! American, Columbians, Scotts, Irish, Eastern Block, Mid East and Asian...a great melting pot in the summer months. Not sure what type of accomodations you are looking for...but long term, you might take a look at some of the seasonal rentals (monthlys) in the local classifieds (www.myrtlebeachonline.com) Of course if you want to make it a working vacation, there is deffinately not a shortage of jobs here in the summer. Burroughs and Chapin do hire a number of J1%26#39;s, as does the numberous lifeguard companies and restaurants. Check out www.burroughs-chapin.com or www.lacksbeachservice.com for more info if your interested. These companies also help with housing.

As for clubs...Broadway at the beach, Club Kryptonite, Red Rooster, Club Hush, Bummz (on the beach), St Clements for the local crowd as well as Liberty Tap Room and Grille....and even tho its a bit of a drive The Marsh Walk in Murrells Inlet (30 minutes south) a number of places to grab a cold one and walk the docks listening to live music at approx 8 different venues.

    ';Is there anyway of getting a train/driving to South Florida??how long would it take?';

Nothing like the rain system there in Dublin. LOL! I wish! The Amtrak does make a stop in Florence (about an hours drive west of us)...I usually drive or if I can find a cheap flgiht fly down to Florida. Ft Lauderdale is just about a 12 hour trip, Jacksonville a bit over 6 hours...of course depending on your speed and traffic/road conditions. But like we have said, the drive does give you some great vistas of the east coast....not that you can see it all from I-95, so if you do drive, be adventorous and hit some of the back roads.....

    Enjoy the trip!

    Senior Week

Looking for a decent place for four 18 year old girls for Senior Week, which is June 4 thru June 11. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Senior Week

I hope they are going to have a parent... most of the oceanfronts won%26#39;t admit anyone under 25 without a parent or adult... believe me-- I know. My husband and I just went for our late honeymoon and I couldn%26#39;t make the reservation because I%26#39;m under 25.

    Senior Week

Try the Sandcastle South (843)-448-4316 (oceanfront) or Hampton Inn 48th (843)449-5231 (1-2 blocks from the ocean)

you can call 1-800-496-8250 extension 8022 to get a FREE stay and Play catalog, in there will be hundreds of hotels and attractions for Myrtle beach. I am sure you will find one there. You can also go to Myrtlebeachinfo.com. GOOD LUCK!!

The Boardwalk Beach Resort will accept seniors as long as everyone is at least 18 years old. You can call 800-535-2297 for rates.

My friends and I stayed at the Atlantica and Poindexter resorts last summer and we were all 18 and one was even 17. The prices are a little high but the room we got in the Atlantica was REALLY nice. It fit 6 people and had a living room and kitchen, and they aren%26#39;t weird about noise or having guests (or parties!). Two of our friends stayed at the Poindexter part of the resort which has just hotel rooms and their room was kind of gross....cigarette burns and stuff, but it ended up working out just fine.

We%26#39;re going back this summer and staying at The Sea Park Motel...it%26#39;s DIRT cheap (as low as $60 a night for 4 people) and takes people under 21 so we%26#39;re hoping it will be ok. Since were all college freshman we didn%26#39;t have the money to go back to the Atlantica else we definitely would have.

Whatever you do, DONT stay at the Quality Inn (im pretty sure thats what its called). We met some guys that were staying there and they have security and stuff and won%26#39;t let you have guests at night. I had to use their bathroom when we were taking a walk on the beach and they had to sneak me in and they caught us on the way back out!

If you wanna have the most fun, stay somewhere on Ocean Blvd. between about the 1600 and 800 blocks, you%26#39;ll be right in the middle of everything. And it%26#39;s walking distance to the Freaky Tiki, which is one of the best clubs there! Hope you find somewhere to stay and have fun!

    Bump for sjsjbb....

    maybe a few ideas here!

  • 18 & 19 year old searching for hotel HELP!!!

This is so fustrating! I%26#39;ve been searching for a nicer hotel that allows under 21 year olds to stay for weeks... no luck. Anyone stay at the Atlantica, Sea Watch, or Anderson Inn? I%26#39;m not looking for anything fancy, just not gross, on the ocean and close to the action. You%26#39;re help would be very appreciated!!! Thanks!

18 %26amp; 19 year old searching for hotel HELP!!!

i am born and raised in myrtle beach. it is hard to find a hotel that will let you stay and not be 21. there are a few of the older hotels that are right beside the pavilion, less than 1.2 block and are on the boulevard and directly on the ocean. they are clean hotels run by good people. you will have to give a deposit due to your age. it will be given back if all is well. i would reccommend that you call the golden villa motel @ 843-448-7664. this hotel is run by the austin family and you will like them. ask for a ocean front room or kitchenette. this is directly down town and is near all the bars, except for the bars that are every where else, which is everywhere. you should have a good time. hope you enjoy. this is not a new fancy hotel but you will be pleased. see if you can find it on line.

18 %26amp; 19 year old searching for hotel HELP!!!

I would definitely recommend the Atlantica...I stayed there last summer for my ';senior trip'; and really enjoyed it. We had an ocean front room that included a living room and small kitchen, and it had a separate bedroom with 2 double beds and a murphy bed in the living room. The view was fabulous and you are RIGHT by all the action, we only drove a couple times during our trip. Also, they are not strict about guests or noise.

The only down side I can think of is that you have to put a lot of money down for the security deposit...I wanna say it%26#39;s something like $300, but if you can come up with that much cash, you get it back at the end of your stay, assuming there isn%26#39;t any major damage.

If you have any other questions about that hotel just let me know!

Thanks for your help! We%26#39;re leaning toward the Atlantica, it sounds nice! Thanks again for your help!

obviously you did not read the reviews on the atlantica or live here. your choice.

I have read some bad reviews on the Atlantica too, but from my experience it%26#39;s a great hotel, especially for people under 21. It%26#39;s hard to judge simply on reviews or simply on one person%26#39;s experience which hotel is right for you but from what I%26#39;ve heard about other hotels that allow 18+, this is about the best you can get.

One suggestion is that no matter where you stay, request a non-smoking room, even if you smoke. Smoking rooms tend to be not nearly as nice and that%26#39;s often where young people get stuck unless they specifically request a non-smoking room.

I hope you have a great trip and whatever hotel you choose works out! If you have any other questions let me know!

Theyachtsman takes students in June. And the Bar Harbor does also but I think all year long. Both get decent reviews. www.yachtsmanhotel.com www.bar-harbor.com

The Polynesian isn%26#39;t as upscale as The Yachtsmann but it%26#39;s decent, especially for young people.

hi i am wondering if anyone knows where i can rent a place close to ocean (walking dist) . i and my friend are pre inlisted in marines and navy. to go to boot camp end of june early july. non drinker and smoker. very respectible and polite. dont have to much money to spend. cant afford that much . would appriciate any info. email to shudach@yahoo.com thanks in advance scott

1week vacation for me and 3 best friends

    Scott,

You didnt list your ages, there are a number of places that will not rent to those under 25 no matter their circumstances. I would take a look at www.vrbo.com These are condos/houses that are for rent by owner. I know a number of folks that didnt make the age requirement for some places to be able to contact the owner, tell them your story and rent directly from them.

Good luck! I hope you can find something!

I have posted a couple times and have received no response. Has anyone stayed at the Atlatica III?? Since this is new I would think it would be nice. Anyways if anyone has stayed there and let me know about their experience I would appreciated it!!

    Please Respond Need Help!!

I recently stayed at the Atlantica I in June of 2006. We had access to the Atlantica III pools and facilities. The Atlantica III was the nicest of the hotels and it seemed to be in the best condition. We did not have a problem with our room and it was pretty clean. After reading the reviews I was worried but I didn%26#39;t have any major problems. The desk staff were very helpful and not rude in any way. You could tell that the rooms were worn from all the use and that they could use a little updating but other than that they were in great shape. If are going to stay there and are expecting the Ritz then you will not be happy with this. Its a great location and we were central to most everything and the view was wonderful. Hope this helps.

    When is Senior Week

    What dates-Thanks!!

    When is Senior Week

phantom77, Senior Week is actualy about a three week (or so) time period, usually from the last week of May to about the second week in June, (or even third week in June). This is because the different High Schools here have graduation on different dates.

Some schools let out weeks before others.

So this year anywhere from say, May 20 to June 16.. Somewhere in there.

How%26#39;s that for being exact ;) LOL

  • Planning a trip in March

I%26#39;m coming to Charleston with some friends for our spring break, which is March 11-17. Can anyone give me some tips on what to expect, as far as weather, etc.? I visited last August and loved it. However, the weather was insanely hot. What can I expect with early March? I doubt it will be beach weather. Also, are the attractions there seasonal? Or will they be open year-round? Any information I can get will be most appreciated. Thanks.

May not be beach weather, but the city will be lovely. All attractions will be open. The annual Festival of Houses and Gardens begins on the 15th.

  • Sea Thunder or Sea Screamer

I%26#39;ve found two very similar ocean sightseeing cruise speedboats and wondered which was better? The both cost the same $20 for adults and $15 for 12 and under.

    They are the Sea Screamer

    http://www.seascreamer.com/myrtle-beach.htm

    and

    Sea Thunder

    http://www.seathunder.com/

    Any opinions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Saxonburg, PA

    Sea Thunder or Sea Screamer

Either one is fine because they%26#39;re both the same. We went on the Sea Screamer and the Sea Thunder was right behind us. It looked like the same boat. It%26#39;s worth the money and they give you a nice 2 hour ride. Here%26#39;s how it goes...

The boat holds over 100 people, probabaly more like 150. All seats are good seats because anything you don%26#39;t see on the way out you%26#39;ll see on the way back. The seats in the front of the boat will stay dry. The folks in the back of the boat WILL get wet. Soaked! Also, wear your sunscreen.

The cruise starts by heading out to sea on the intercoastal waterway. The captain offers a few historical tidbits along the way, but not much. (Did you know that the intercoastal waterway is man-made and runs from Florida to New Jersey!) The most interesting sight is the area where the waterway meets the ocean. Here you%26#39;ll see many folks in small boats that have parked on a sandbar/penninsula and are enjoy utterly unspoiled beach terrain, fishing, etc. On my next trip to MB I%26#39;m definitely going to rent a boat and check out this area. The Sea Screamer cost us $80 for four, renting a boat shouldn%26#39;t be too much more.

Then you scream out to sea! Well, not exactly screaming, just a nice quick cruise. The boat is powerful, but I was very disappointed to learn just how fast this boat is NOT. It could have gone faster but the sea had 3%26#39; to 4%26#39; waves that day. After a couple of minutes the Sea Screamer slows way down so it can tailgate some shrimp trawlers. This is where the dolphins are seen, following the shrimp boats. The dolphins don%26#39;t play with you, they%26#39;re only there to get some fishing scraps. If you blink you might miss%26#39;em.

After that you%26#39;ll cruise south for quite a while as fast as the boat can take you. (Our captain said we cruised at 26 knots.) This is the part of the trip that gets everyone SOAKED. Bring a change of clothes! Then the boat turns around and brings you back to port via the same route.

Be sure to arrive at least one hour early to get tickets. I got there 50 minutes early and was lucky to get the last four tickets! After you have your tickets try to get on line right away to snag the desirable front seats. The boat does have restrooms below deck and drinks for sale.

    Sea Thunder or Sea Screamer

    Thanks ChubbyTraveler.

Where is the best place to sit to see the dolphins?

My family went on the Whirlpool Jetboats in Niagara Falls last year and I was wondering if this boat is anything like that?

A few years back we were in Myrtle Beach and went on a sight seeing cruise along the coast. The problem was that the boat (docked in Murrells Inlet) was used as a fishing boat before we got on so the boat reaked of bleach and fish for the entire trip. It was awful. In fact we got our money back afterwards. The Sea Screamer or Thunder aren%26#39;t like that are they?

Finally are there any discount coupons for either boat anywhere?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Ron

    Saxonburg, PA

    chubbytravler...

you gave a great description...I felt like I%26#39;ve gon for a ride! It is alot of fun and I agree that both boths are very similar. Probably the biggest difference is where they leave dock from. The Sea Screamer is out of Little River, approx 20 miles north of MB and the Sea Thunder docks out of Calabash, NC...just across the state line, maybe 10 miles north of Little River. With that being said, you will cover a different piece of the ICW on your way out....I really like the area of the ICW just outside of Calabash...but you do pass Bird Island (the little area where all the boats where parked) on either voyage. Bird Island is a great little area, and is just about only accessable by boat...you could either rent a boat or a jet ski and head up that way for the day...its a real popular hangout for the 4th of July...a number of folks will camp out on the island and cook out...great view point for all the firework up and down the beach. You should check it out! www.myrtlebeachwatersports.com is a great site for boat/jet ski rentals.

And like you said...the speeds of the boats can be greatly determined by what the seas are doing....not alot of fun hitting 3-4 foot waves going much over 25 knots! Ouch! And not safe either!

Glad you had a great time....it really gives you a different viewpoint of our area, thats for sure!

Oh, even tho%26#39; quite a bit of the ICW is man-made (i.e. the pine island cut) it does incorporate a number of natural rivers...just south of MB the Waccamaw River is part of the ICW for example....

    Info on Fairfield Ocean Ridge

Thanks for the information Thomas. How are the pools there? And is there a pool close to the oceanfront suites? Good idea about the bikes. We are driving and have a bike rack. So we can load them up.

There are no oceanfront villas in Fairfield Ocean Ridge at Edisto Beach; the only oceanfront accomodations in Edisto Beach are privately owned homes. That being said, Edisto Beach is not a large community, so no matter where you are, you are not more than a few blocks away from the ocean. Fairfield does own a large oceanfront cabana for guests use. It includes a deck, lounge chairs, and bathroom facilities.

Most of the villas overlook the golf course (currently under renovation). There is a pool and playground in the main gated complex where most of the villas are. Most are nice; which one you book depends upon how many bedrooms/baths you need %26amp; what you are willing to spend.

Make sure you take your bikes. The entire community is very bicycle friendly. Edisto Beach is a quiet, family oriented community; several small restaurants, one grocery store, several small gift shops, etc. No hotels or nightclubs. We have been going to Edisto for 13 years and love it.

Just to warn you, I had an awful experience with the Oristo Lodge villa... I would not recommend! It was nasty and old. And Fairfield Ocean Ridge was not willing to upgrade us without us paying a fortune extra... nor would they give us our money back since we could not stand to stay another night in that dump!

The feeling I got was that you have to pay a whole lot to get something descent. The condos and houses are probably much nicer and unfortunately much more expensive. But keep in mind that Ocean Ridge is the only resort on the island and does not have competition.

We are currently staying in Fairfield Ocean Ridge. We are on the third floor of a time share the complex is called Bay Point. We overlook big bay creek and St. Helen sound. The unit is a two bedroom and has a kitchen and sleeper sofa. Very nice unit. Large jacuzzi tub in master bath.

There is a pod of about 30 dolphin that live hang out in the bay and they come so close to the shore that you could almost touch them. Fairfield has a golf course that just opened about a year ago. The course is in good shape and worth the $50.00 greens fee. You can walk or ride.

Everthing is catered to be outside. The pool is covered with a tent and is suppose to be heated but we were not impressed with it. We ate at a couple of restruants and they are ok but not great. It rained a couple of days and there is not much to do. Fishing has not been very good either.

If you are looking for a quiet place to visit this is the place. I have heard that in the summer it is very busy but much more to do.

We stayed at the Fairfield Ocean Ridge at the Bay Point villas. The room was HUGE! Large enough for two families! It overlooks the river/bay area. Very nice; super quiet, which is what we were looking for in November. Very nice staff. Pools looked nice, but we didn%26#39;t choose to swim this time. HUGE jacuzzie tubs, nice interiors, HUGE kitchens.

You need to go to a great restaurant called the Old Post Office, which is highly recommended by Gourmet magazine. Get the authentic southern lowcountry grits. The desserts are awesome. For breakfast go to the Sea Cow.

    Take or rent bikes.

    Have fun.

    Clinton, SC

I will be with a friend on business the week of Jan. 15, 2007 in Clinton, SC. Is there anything to do there for two curious women? I only know about the church, the college, and the museum, but we%26#39;re looking for somewhere to get into some mischief. Any help? What are the good restaurants there? Are there any decent taverns? Any ladies nights anywhere?

    Thanks.

    Clinton, SC

Clinton is a small, friendly town of approximately 10,000 folks. I haven%26#39;t been there in several years, but I don%26#39;t think that you will find much in the way of nightlife. From what I remember, the town is very family-oriented. There are a variety of pizza joints, BBQ places, chain restaurants - most of what you would find in a small college town. The college there is a church-affiliated school (run by the Presbyterian Church).

Golf Course Question - Tidewater, Barefoot Love, World Tour

    Hi,

We%26#39;re coming down golfing in Feb. and I have a couple questions.

We have tee times booked at Tidewater and Barefoot for Friday/Saturday.

We arrive at Myrtle Beach airport Thursday at 11:30 and would like to get in a round this day provided we have time to check in to the Avista and get to a course.

The party is now interested in playing the World Tour course where they recreate famous holes. Should we do this over the two we already have chosen.

As well, the clubs have said that if we want to get in 18 by dark Thursday we should be on the course no later than 1-1:30....

So should we be looking for a third round close to our condo?

Any recommendations on the golfing? Should we switch out one of the courses to play the world tour course?

I really researched Tidewater and Barefoot Love and really found only huge praise for being amazing courses. Mostly were interested in great scenery, surroundings and fun golf!

Golf Course Question - Tidewater, Barefoot Love, World Tour

In my opinion, can%26#39;t go wrong w/ Tidewater or Barefoot....have not had the pleasure w/ World Tour....TONYMIK will probably chime in on the golfing.

Golf Course Question - Tidewater, Barefoot Love, World Tour

If you get to the airport on Thursday, I%26#39;m guessing that%26#39;s 11:30 a.m., you could drop off your clubs at Avista and maybe try Oyster Bay or Tiger%26#39;s Eye up north of the hotel. Both are beautiful courses.

I loved World Tour. First class treatment.

Definitely stay with your reservation at Barefoot - we%26#39;ve played the Love and Fazio tracks and - by far in the 21 years we%26#39;ve been to MB - they are two of the finest we%26#39;ve played.

    Have fun.

    Kevin

    Toronto

    Hey BC,

Although the World Tour is a really good golfing experience, I would not switch with either Tidewater or Barefoot Love..

If you really want to play World Tour, why not just go directly to the course from the airport. You will be able to make a 12:15 tee time and possibly get an afternoon rate and save a few dollars. However, if you insist on getting to the Avista first, you will be better served to play a quality course close by the resort.

I would recommend Heather Glen, or River Hills which are close by.

The key is to get on the course before 1pm, because it can be pretty darn cold if you are out on the course at 5:30....

As an earlier poster indicated TONYMIK will be able to steer you in the right direction. His recommendations are always dead on!

    Good luck with your choice...

You have a very good pair of courses in Tidewater and Barefoot Love. Before I would switch to World Tour if its scenery your looking for Oyster Bay and Rivers Edge are both very scenic with many marsh holes.Rivers Edge is a bit of a ride but worth it.

  • Myrtle Beach with Children... where to stay?

We%26#39;re interested in taking our 3 kids to M.B. over the summer. Looking into a condo to rent, or a hotel suite. Anyone have any suggestions or advice? Any input would be appreciated since we%26#39;ve never been there b4.

Myrtle Beach with Children... where to stay?

My personal favorite is Breakers Paradise Towers (www.breakers.com). But you will get all sorts of suggestions.

Some others haven%26#39;t stayed in any of these but they seemed nice from the outside:

    -Sea Island Inn

-I hear that Dunes Village is nice (looking into that myself)

    -Long Bay Resort

-Hampton Inn Oceanfront- location not as great as the others

Have stayed at Compass Cove Resort. Nice for kids but I don%26#39;t like the location as much as with the Breakers.

Myrtle Beach with Children... where to stay?

We have stayed at OCEAN CREEK..in the South tower..with a

3 bedroom... Lots of pools.. love it there...

Also have stayed at Barefoot Resort...its not on the beach tho...

but during the season there is a trolley to the beach or you can drive

    and park...

Thanks so much, I%26#39;ll check it out online.

Decide first if you want ocean front/ocean view or not important. I assume with children somewhere close to ocean is preferable. NO shortage of nice condo%26#39;s up and down the strand. Next question, are you wanting to be close to everything, in the middle of everything, then stay in Myrtle Beach. If you are not so interested in being in the hub bub, go further north to Cherry Grove or south to Sufside/Garden City. Those area%26#39;s are more family oriented. There are multiple real estate companies in the MB area that offer rentals, most condo%26#39;s have pools. If you want a resort, you can find some with effiencies, pools, maybe indoor pool, jaccuzzi, game room. There are hundreds of resorts and thousands of houses/condos. Decide what your price range is, when you go through the real estate company, they usually break rentals down by ocean front, ocean view, 2nd row back, and break down by price also. Before we moved here I prefered condo rentals over resort rentals I wanted a full kitchen to be able to cook breakfast/lunch and only eat out for dinner, little cost savings that way.

You might also check out www.vrbo.com then scan for properties that have been mentioned. SouthWind Villas are also very nice (sister property to Sea Island...opps, I mean Island Vista, they just changed their name) Grande Shores, Long Bay or Monteray Bay Suites would be a few others to also look into.

I really love the beach in this area...nice to walk, very gradual drop off into the ocean, so great for the kids, waves arent real huge. Not far from some great places to eat, almost between Broadway at the BEach and Barefoot Landing too!

    :)

Thank you all for your suggestions! I appreciate it very much!

We stayed at the Sea Island this past summer - 3 families with 7 kids and loved it. Full kitchen and full size washer/dryers. Nice residential area so pretty much whoever was on the beach in front of the resort was staying there. Plenty for the kids to do.

    Golf and Weather

I will be visiting Kiawah Island later this month, January 2007. Is anyone aware of bargains or discounts that I might be able to find for golf on the island? Also, any information about what type of weather I should expect would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Golf and Weather

The weather in late January will probably be chilly (average daytime high is 57 degrees), but you might luck into some sunny weather in the 60%26#39;s.

Except for the two private club courses, which are open only to members and their guests, all Kiawah golf courses are part of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. You can get information on fees and packages from their website at www.kiawahresort.com.

    Golf and Weather

Though you can get golf packages and greens fee discounts if you stay through Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the rent is very high. Depending on the amount of golf you would like to play, you might be better off renting a villa or cottage through one of the other management companies on the island or ';by owner'; at www.vrbo.com or www.homeaway.com. (Disclaimer, I rent a cottage by owner on Kiawah) and then pay a little more for your golf. Only you can make that decision. Have a wonderful time!

    Sea Island or Breakers??

Which of these is the better choice?? Or any other recommendations?? Interested in oceanfront, restaurants at resort, kid friendly, close to attractions. Looking for a family oriented resort for my husband and I and our will be 6mo daughter. This will be our first time traveling to MB, expected date of travel is early June. Also, how is the weather at this time? THANKS!!

    Sea Island or Breakers??

Stayed many years at The Breakers which is close to attrractions like Broadway at the Beach, Family Kingdom amusement park, Coastal Federal Field, Costal Grand Mall (near the airport) where the Pelicans play. Weather will be great but it%26#39;s extremely busy. We stayed at the Breakers north boutique hotel, about six blocks north, two years ago and found it way quieter with more room at the pools for our kids. There%26#39;s a nice kiddie pool too. The rooms there are modern and we made good use of the kitchen; we found the Breakers main resort a little worn down last few years before that. never stayed at their Paradise building. Small restaurant at north tower and there%26#39;s one on-site at main resort and one right across the street.

Last year, we chose Sea Island. It is stunning, the rooms spacious, the pool facilities are fantastic. It%26#39;s not as close to Broadway at the Beach but it%26#39;s closer to Restaurant Row and some other attractions. It has a restaurant on-site but it%26#39;s a little expensive. We made good use of the huge kitchen for breakfast and lunch and then went out for dinner. It%26#39;s in a quiet residential area with no high-rises around it.

We would choose Sea Island over The Breakers any day.

    Sea Island or Breakers??

I have stayed at the Breakers. Both the Resort building and the Paradise Towers. The Sea Island has newer accommodations, and is everything is newer.

If you choose Breakers go with Paradise Towers Building.

I have been looking at Sea Island and it is nice. Only problem it is going to cost you a little more than Breakers. Try Sea Island first and if they don%26#39;t have your dates available go with the Paradise Towers at the Breakers. You won%26#39;t be disappointed. The weather is good in June. We typically go in August but have been there in June and it isn%26#39;t as Humid or hot. I think last time we went in June it was about lower 80%26#39;s with not much humidity.

Great thanks! I would to stay at Sea Island but it looks like the price difference between the two is a little over $500 but I guess since its so newer I can understand why. If I am able to get a better deal we%26#39;ll definitely go with SI. If we do Breakers I will request the Paradise Towers.

The weather sounds perfect not too hot since we will be traveling with a little one. Should we pack jeans for night time?

How are the beaches? I heard Hilton Head beaches are much better (this is coming from someone who visited MB 10 yrs ago) I got kinda worried when I heard this as we are really forward to visiting MB.

    Thanks!!!

In early June I would say yes to packing the jeans. At least 2 pair. I find that in the restaurants when we go to eat it is always a little cold and I can%26#39;t enjoy my meal if I am freezing. :-)

I am planning our annual MB trip, we go in August I may try to get Sea Island if not I loved the Paradise Towers. We had their 2 BR 2 FBA OF Superior Suite. It was nice. It had a full kitchen fully stocked on utensils and pots and pans; 2 BR the first BR had a window at the front of the room and had 2 Queen beds and a TV. The Master BR had 2 Queen beds or King depending on which room, with a nice large Bathroom (Jacuzzin/Whirlpool Tub) balcony access from room TV. LR with nice couch and chairs TV with VCR and Videos in the top drawer (Good kids movies) oh and one of those games I think a Playstation or Nintendo or something. Dining room with table and 6 chairs. Also the View with the floor to ceiling glass window was wonderful. We were on the 4th floor if I recall which was high enough to have direct view of beach.

Thanks for the info. I called Sea Island they wanted 1883.00 and Breakers was 1160 in the Paradise. The only downfall with Breakers was 2 Queen beds and no King. The king was available in the South Tower, but I prefer the newer building.

    What about the beaches??

    Thanks!!

The beaches in the area around Sea Island are, IMO, some of the best around. Nice and wide...great for walking, shell or shark teeth collecting, fishing, boarding or just sitting and watching the surf roll in! You have a nice residential area to the north and to south of this area we call the avenues or the golden mile...so beaches usually arent jam packed.

Its a tough choice...there are things I really like about both places. Breakers (Paradise Tower) has one of my fav beach bar and grilles located right next door (Bummz -- great live music and decent food!) and they are within walking distance to a number of other places to grab a bite, ice cream or coffee. The pool are for the kids is decent and they do have a few restaurants on site (Red Parrott and Papa%26#39;s across the street in the lower level of the parking garage). Sea Island like the above post says, has a restaurant on site -- pricey and really not the same Sea Island restaurant it once was...the pool area there is pretty awesome and everything is direct OF. You do have a number of places nearby (not really walking distance, but you could jump the trolley and head north in the 70+ Avenues area)that are some of my favorites! Collectors Cafe, City Bar, Liberty Tap Room and Grille (the best meatloaf around!), Villa Mare, China Dragon, Cheeseburger in Paradise (great live music!) and Fiesta Mexicana (excellent food and $2 margaritas!)

Long pants for the evening a yes for the evening...especially along the beach if the wind is up...but early June is a great time! Right during the time of our Sun Fun Festival!

    :)

I have also stayed at both and i FAVOR sea Island. It was not more expensive for us ....actually Sea Island came in at about 300.00 cheaper and it was much better.Either would be fine but I would only stay in the Paradise Towers at Breakers ...the rest of the resort is no where as new and nice. Also with a little baby you may need to know that you have to cross the street for parking at the Breakers .Which will be even worse in June.My husband said he would have paid double not to have to keep crossing that street.

We have decided to stay at The Breakers. I would have loved to stay at the Sea Island, but after calling today for rates it was going to be over $800 dollars more for the week and that was overextending over budget. We really look forward to our vacation. Thanks for all the info and advice!!

driving conditions driving to myrtle beach

I am driving to myrtle beach for march break and have never driven down south in march. can anyone please advise as to the type of weather i shoud anticipate traveling south 79 and so on.

    thanks.

driving conditions driving to myrtle beach

Like weather at the beach there is no guarantee. Just taking a wild guess I%26#39;d say once you get south of Erie and away from lake effect you should be ok.

Even if by some chance Mother Nature throws us a rare surprise you should have smooth sailing from Wythville, VA down.

driving conditions driving to myrtle beach

We have driven to SC twice in March and never encountered any snow at all, not even here in Michigan. However, my sister and her family drove to Myrtle Beach last March and encountered some light snow in West Virginia, Virginia and western North Carolina on the way down. Like I said, it was light snow, I don%26#39;t even think it accumulated on the ground, and it was no big deal to drive in. If you do happen to encounter any snow, the U.S. interstates are almost always the first to get any attention from plow trucks, etc. and you should be fine, especially being from Toronto and knowing how to drive in snow.

A sidenote, as so often happens in the South in the spring, when my sister and her family left to come home, the same areas that had snow on the way down were experiencing temps in the mid-seventies! : - )

April 20th in Hilton Head - This may be off base

We are playing a wedding April 21st at The Westin in Hilton Head. We%26#39;ll be staying there the 20th and 21st. Our band is not a typical ';wedding band'; nor is this a typical wedding but we are more of a bar band or a rock band. Anyhow, we need help with finding a venue that has live music on weekends and would be open to a band from out of town. I have found that most places in Hilton Head lack a website for contact information. We%26#39;ve tried Wild Wings, and Salty Dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions or contact information about bars that are primarily based toward 25-45 year olds that may be interested?

    MB Concierge,advice please??

Any info on Rainbow Court, heard it would be right down our street,ie young people looking for a good time??Oh and any idea of Green Fee%26#39;s in the summer??Thanks!

    MB Concierge,advice please??

Green fees will drop somewhat in the summer.Witch,Wizzard, and Man O War offered around $115 to play all 3 last year.Thats cart and green fee. Diamond Back had sommer ads for about $28.

The high end courses want abouy$75 to $100 a round.

    MB Concierge,advice please??

There are a number of hotels down and around that area of the beach...Rainbow Court, Midtown Inn, Crepe Myrtle, Noel Court....just to name a few. Most of these properties will allow guests to register that are under the age of 25 (a number of properties here will not), and this area is a very diverse mix come the summer months, as a number of our international students who come to work the beach in the summer find housing in this area. Of course, all of these properties do have certain rules to follow, and if the good time is kept in reason, there shouldnt be any problem. I remember reading one post somewhere about someone staying at the Rainbow Court and they said the best advice was to get on the good side of the security guard! LOL! But you know...that cant hurt!

And, as Tony stated...green fees do a bit of a nose dive come summer....late June thru September. Not as low as the dead of winter months, but you can find some good deals come summer. I would advise not booking your golf until you get here, then check the local paper, or call around for a 48 hour or 24 hour rate....

    Hope all this helps!

South Winds, Sea Island, Dunes Village, Marriot Grand Dunes

Thank you for your advice MB Concierge! I have more questions:)

Out of South Winds, Sea Island, Marina Inn at Grand Dunes Villlage, and the Marriot at Grand Dunes. lt seems that the Sea Island has the nicest indoor pools from the pictures that are on the website. Do you know if the other pools in the other hotels are as nice? Someone said they really liked the pools at Marina Inn at Grand dunes village

for children, how come? Do you know if the outdoor pools are heated at these hotels?

I guess I%26#39;m thinking that we may have to utilize the indoor pools at the time we are going in the beginning of April.

    Thank you Again!

South Winds, Sea Island, Dunes Village, Marriot Grand Dunes

    Cyni,

I think they are referring to Dunes village 5200 ocean bld.It has a indoor waterpark for the kids.

South Winds, Sea Island, Dunes Village, Marriot Grand Dunes

Most of the ';true'; outdoor pools are not heated...but at both Sea Island and Dunes Village the pools are more like an indoor/outdoor...the pool area at Dunes village is a bit more ';involved'; with slides (dual) but the Sea Island pool layout and landscape is neat.....

bring on the questions! I love it!
